General Purpose

The Development and Community Relations Committee is commissioned by and responsible to the Board of Directors to assume the primary responsibility for raising grant funds to support the organization’s mission, building relationships both within and outside the community. Committee to meet on odd months.

Appointments and Composition

The Appointments of the Chair and members of the Board Governance Committee shall be made annually by vote of the Board in accordance with the by-laws.

• The committee shall consist of at least two directors. Additional committee members may be appointed from the community.
• The committee shall select a chair, and a secretary to complete agendas and record meeting minutes. All agendas and minutes shall be made available on the Arco Iris webpage.

All committee members must complete a background check, annual conflict of interest questionnaire, and any applicable training.

Responsibilities

• Develop annual and multi-year fundraising plans that will generate the funds needed to meet the organization’s fundraising goal.
• Build and develop relationships with local business and government officials.
• Develop marketing strategies to further the vision of the school board.
• Research grants, review grants for eligibility, and apply for grants in coordination with administration.
• Develop the necessary sub-committee/workgroup systems to successfully carry out the fundraising events and activities that are part of the annual fundraising plan; supervise the functions of the sub-committees/workgroups.
• Arrange for Board training on development and community issues, as needed.
• Create specific, measurable board-level goals for the year as part of the full board planning process.
• Report to the Board of Directors at regular meetings of the Board in a manner determined by the Board.
