Field Trips & Fun

Students and teachers alike love field trips. Field trips give us the opportunity to experience the world with all of our senses: new sights, smells, and sounds expand our world and inspire us to think and act creatively. Memories are made and learning is cemented. At our tuition-free charter school, we intentionally incorporate field trips into each grade's school year that not only extend the learning we gain in the classroom, but that are also fun!

Arco Iris 4th and 5th grade students listen to Nike employees as they prepare to play a game. They are inside a gymnasium at the Nike World Headquarters.

Nike World Headquarters

Recently, Arco Iris 4th and 5th graders were invited to the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton where Spanish speaking employees from Nike’s Latino & Friends Network hosted a tour, lunch and activities. Spanish was spoken the whole day, giving students a chance to practice their Spanish speaking and listening skills in an authentic, meaningful experience.

From scavenger hunts to sports, lunch and the gift of swag, students learned about Nike’s Global Futbol Merchandising and the Made to Play initiative designed to promote the power of play for all. Students were even empowered to share their opinions on kids apparel and merchandise–making their voice have an impact on future designs. As one Arco Iris student said,

This was a day to remember forever.

As a result of this trip, Nike committed to helping Arco Iris fund a playground by offering a double match on all funds raised through their internal donation system. Thank you, Nike!

Home Depot Build Visit

Our youngest students enjoyed a special visit from the Home Depot team on campus recently. Students were supplied with wooden kits of a sailboat or toolbox to practice their DIY skills. The happy sounds of hammering, sanding and building filled our kindergarten classroom as children put together their kits. The event was hosted in Spanish and students were thrilled to take home the iconic orange apron with Spanish language emblazoned upon the front.

Kindergarten students at Arco Iris Immersion School participate in a Home Depot building event in their classroom. The students are wearing orange Home Depot aprons while sitting at tables and working with wood kits. An adult is offering help.

Throughout students’ 6 years at Arco Iris Spanish Immersion School, they will enjoy a variety of field trips that take our learning outside the classroom. Some favorites include the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), the Oregon Zoo, and the Rice Museum of Rocks and Minerals

Interested in joining in the fun and the chance to expose your child to all the sights and sounds that learning in Oregon can offer? Our K-5 charter school has a few spots available for the 2023-24 school year. Join us for field trips, Spanish immersion and so much more.
