Who We Are: Angie Tirado, Kindergarten

Starting Kindergarten can involve a wild mix of nerves, excitement and anticipation–new school, new friends, new language, new lunch seat. The right teacher, like our Angie Tirado, can help calm those nerves and make Kindergarten an experience students will reflect upon fondly. We’ve asked Ms. Tirado, who hails from Puerto Rico, to share with us a little about her background as an educator and why she chooses to teach Kindergarten at our tuition-free public charter school

When did you know you wanted to be an educator?

On my father's side, I have many relatives who were teachers. From an early age I knew that this was what I wanted to be.

Who was your favorite teacher and why?

My first grade teacher, because she was a very loving teacher, yet strict at the same time.

How does the Arco Iris' mission and vision align with your personal values?

My professional values include; love for my culture, my language and respect for human beings.  Being able to share my values with my school community as a teacher. I am interested in learning about other cultures to broaden both my personal and professional perspective, so I can convey this with authenticity to my students.
