Spanish Language Proficiency (STAMP)

We assess our students' Spanish language skills through STAMP 4Se assessments. (STAndards-based Measurement of Proficiency).

We assess students in the following grades:

  • Grade 8
  • Grade 7
  • Grade 5
  • Grade 4
  • Grade 3

This assessment tests the student’s proficiency in Spanish in the domains of Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. The assessment is completed online via a testing portal, and requires a moderated testing environment. This assessment usually takes students about an hour to complete. Teachers will be using the data as evidence of Spanish language proficiency, and administration will use the data to make better-informed decisions about curriculum and teacher professional development. If you want to know more about the exam, feel free to explore further at: https://avantassessment.com/stamp

There is no additional expense to our families.  Arco Iris will only test each student once, and will assume the cost of the initial assessment. If families choose to assess their children with this exam (or other similar) on their own, they will be responsible for making their own arrangements.

Other DL (Dual Language) programs in the area often request this type of data as they evaluate their incoming students in their prospective language programs.  Individual student assessment results will be provided to those programs upon their request.  Families will be notified of their child’s assessment results via ParentSquare once we receive them.

This assessment is not required per state or local mandates, rather a testing mechanism that Arco Iris has chosen to assess the proficiency level and growth of our student’s language acquisition at the end of the school year.

We know that state testing is upon us, so we will be strategic about the timing of this language assessment so as to not overload our students with the stress that comes with testing.  We will complete this assessment as our schedule allows beginning in mid May through the end of this school year.

We are scheduled to begin testing the week of May 13th.
