New school year, new teachers at Arco Iris Spanish Immersion School, our tuition-free K-5th grade, in Beaverton, Oregon. We’d like to introduce you to our new fabulous first grade teacher, Viviana Melo, Maestra Vivi to her students, whose daughters attend here as well.
What specifically about Arco Iris Spanish Immersion School stood out to you and made you want to teach here?
When I discovered Arco Iris Spanish Immersion School as an option for my daughters, I was thrilled by the school’s approach to academic growth and cultural immersion. As a Latin educator, I believe that we have a unique ability to connect with students and share our rich cultural heritage. I am excited about the opportunity to teach in a setting where I can share my language and culture with students from diverse backgrounds. Teaching in my native language is a privilege, and I am eager to bring my passion and expertise to the Arco Iris community.
How does the Arco Iris mission and vision align with your personal values?
The Arco Iris mission and vision align with my values of promoting bilingualism, cultural awareness, and academic excellence. I am drawn to the school commitment to developing bilingual and biliterate learners, fostering a multicultural community, and preparing students for a globalized world.
I am excited to inspire a love of learning and guide my students' growth. I am looking forward to creating engaging lesson plans and building strong relationships with my students.
Who inspired you to become an educator?
Growing up in a small rural school on the outskirts of a town, I was fortunate to have a teacher like "el profesor Antonio". Despite the challenges, he showed up every day with enthusiasm and resources, creating engaging lessons, plays and activities that made learning fun. His dedication and passion for teaching had a lasting impact on me and inspired me to become an educator.
Fun facts about Viviana Melo
- I enjoy traveling with my family, discovering new places and cultures and tasting new food.
- Cooking is a passion of mine, and I love showing love and appreciation to those I care about through food.
- I am a bit of a wannabe athlete: I used to be active in sports and I am looking to get back into them. I enjoy going for walks and tending to my small garden. These activities bring me joy and help me connect with nature and my loved ones.
