The end of the school year is always eagerly anticipated - the children buzz around school with an extra special energy as summer beckons. At Arco Iris, it's a magical time to celebrate all the growth, friendships, and memories made throughout the school year. From silly string battles to heartfelt ceremonies, here's how our small, tuition-free charter school wrapped up another fantastic year together!
Field Day
Late May brought one of our most anticipated events - Field Day! Students raced across the playground, cheering for their classmates in the spirit of friendly competition and teamwork. We held all the traditional field day events: bean bag toss, relay races, and silly games that everyone could enjoy. It was a great day spent outdoors - without rain! - enjoying a few laughs and having fun together.
Classroom Celebrations
On May 30th, our incredible parent volunteers transformed classrooms into party central! These celebrations were a beautiful example of what makes Arco Iris special - our families coming together to create magical moments for our entire community. From special snacks to fun activities, volunteers took over the party planning so teachers could enjoy the time with their classmates and families. It's always heartwarming to see how our volunteer community pours love into making these parties memorable for every child.
Kindergarten & 5th Grade Promotion
Our Kindergarten and 5th grade promotional ceremonies are equal parts celebration and happy tears. Watching our youngest learners complete their first year of school (and dual-language learning!) fills everyone with pride. And when our 5th graders walk across that stage, prepared to move on to their middle school chapter, even the toughest among us might get a little misty-eyed. These ceremonies honor not just academic achievement, but the incredible journey of becoming confident, bilingual learners ready for their next adventure.
The Most Epic Day of All: Director for a Day!
Now, let's talk about what might be the coolest auction prize in school history. This year, three lucky students - Ruby, Bianca, and one of our fantastic first graders - got to swap places with Ms. Murphy and Mr. Urdiales on May 13th.
Imagine being eight years old and getting to:
- Make the morning announcements (in TWO languages, no less!)
- Supervise recess with all the authority of actual grown-ups
- Enjoy a special administrative lunch
- Take an official "coffee break" (with kid-friendly refreshing beverages, of course)
But wait, it gets better. How does a day of being the boss end? With an EPIC SILLY STRING BATTLE! Mr. Urdiales and these mini-directors engaged in colorful, chaotic silly string warfare. The laughter echoed through the entire school, and cleanup was absolutely worth it for the memories made.
What makes these end-of-year events truly special isn't just the fun and games (though those are pretty great). It's the way they embody everything Arco Iris stands for - community, celebration of growth, and finding joy in learning together. Here's to another amazing year at Arco Iris, where every ending is really just the beginning of the next adventure. ¡Feliz verano, familias!
