A good library inspires us to dive into the pages of a book to explore worlds unknown, uncover mysteries, and empathize with characters. Arco Iris is fortunate to have a well-stocked and frequently visited library thanks to the strong spirit of volunteerism at our tuition-free Spanish immersion school. Volunteers have built our library to be an inviting space that welcomes students to learn something new and expand their horizons.
As a charter school that seeks to create a supportive community that is both diverse and inclusive, our library is a place rich in information and ideas that reflect this mission. We regularly invest in our collection to keep our library up-to-date and well-stocked. Books at the Arco Iris library are:
- Available in Spanish or English
- Representative of our multicultural community
- Inclusive of diverse voices and perspectives
- Age appropriate
- Leveled to help readers of all abilities pick a “just right book”
Our volunteers have spent countless hours making our library special by organizing, leveling, and labeling books for checkout. They create enticing book displays to grab students’ attention, build seasonal collections, and help children make selections that align with their interests. Each K-5 class attends a twice monthly Library Time staffed by volunteers where they learn to navigate the stacks and check out books.
Our K-5 classrooms are also stocked with a wide selection of age-appropriate books in both fiction and non-fiction titles. Books are leveled and labeled so children can easily find what they are looking for. Additionally, our English teacher visits classrooms with a mobile library cart, bringing a unique collection of books that students can borrow from as well.
