The students could work with short stories, worksheets, poems, books, questions, and graphic organizer about the specific story.
Reading (yellow envelope)
Every Tuesday the students could bring to their home the yellow envelope with short stories, poems, text and sometimes a book. The envelope should return on Friday or Monday with the assigned text inside. I know that the instructions in the envelope is different about how long you should keep it. I changed the instructions about this process. We will start to work at class with comprehension skill, ideas and details in Spanish. The shorts stories are the perfect tool to start with. The student could familiarized with the story before comprehension activity class and discussion that will be every Monday. After this, the students they’ll be able to work with the current reading Spanish level (ENIL). Don’t worry if your student is not able to answer the questions about the story, we will have the time to do it every Monday.

When a student does not meet an expectation, they are redirected (see choices on “think sheet”) by the teacher/support staff. If the student does not comply and does the same behavior, they are sent to a buddy classroom to complete a think sheet. This allows them some cool down/metacognitive reflection time. If they refuse the “think sheet”, they are sent to the counselor/office to do a referral sheet for defiance. You may add other infractions. A referral is recorded in our computer system and stays on their student file throughout their school career. Depending on the infraction, it is administration’s call to suspend the student. A new behavior triggers the process again. Three “think” sheets in a week and I will call the parent)
