Art Literacy Culture
This month, in Art Literacy, students will learn about the art of the Aboriginals, Australia’s first inhabitants. Aboriginals believe that ancestral spirits came to earth and created landforms, animals and plants. This time of creating is called the Dreaming. In essence, the Dreaming comes from the land. In Aboriginal society, people did not own the land, it was part of them and it was part of their duty to respect and look after mother earth. The land is fundamental to the well-being of the Aboriginal people.
Aboriginal art reflects the beliefs of the Dreaming and illustrates its stories. Students will learn to identify the different ways Aboriginals used lines in their paintings and drawings and were then inspired to create their own artwork using lines in different ways.
