About the Position
The Assistant Director assists the Executive Director in setting the vision for achieving and sustaining high levels of student achievement at the school, and does so by strategically implementing the school’s mission through effective leadership. The Assistant Director leverages the necessary supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student to his/her fullest potential. Supporting a culture of excellence in teaching and learning, focusing on the achievement of all children, and supporting a vision that attends to the needs of historically underrepresented groups, the Assistant Director assists with all elements of the academic program, co-curricular program, and physical plant management in order for all students to meet the school’s highest aspirations.
The Assistant Director is the deputy instructional and administrative leader and operates with a high level of autonomy under direction from the Executive Director. The incumbent operates with guided independence, ensuring that decisions are supportive of and supported by the Executive Director as well as aligned with school’s policies, labor agreements, state regulations, and federal statutes. The incumbent has significant supervisory responsibilities and broad impact in the operation of the school environment and its academic and co-curricular goals.
About the School
Arco Iris Spanish Immersion School is a Kindergarten through 8th grade public charter school in Beaverton, Oregon, featuring Spanish immersion and Singapore Math. The School is the first charter school in the Beaverton School District founded in 2010 by several parents and educators who were passionate about their children receiving a rigorous academic education that included a second language. Arco Iris School is a one-way Spanish Immersion school with a mission focused on bilingual language achievement, a rigorous mathematics program and a multicultural community that will improve outcomes for all students, including those who are historically and educationally underserved. Studying a second language increases the student’s cognitive flexibility, the ability to mentally shuffle material, significantly improving problem solving abilities, and also leads to greater understanding of the world we live in. Students also have daily English class and with the double emphasis on language arts. The students usually score in the top 10% in the state every year. Teaching young learners about different cultures fosters tolerance and diversity, giving them a wider perspective on the world, appreciation, and respect for the differences in everyone. For 2021, the School was ranked #3 for Best Charter Elementary Schools in Oregon, #4 for Best Charter Middle Schools in Oregon and #15 for Best Public Middle Schools in Oregon by Niche.com with an overall grade of “A”.
